Nikon D100 Review by:     Oscar Meszar

This review is intended to give you my impression
Introduction
I'm not a professional photographer. I'm someone who simply likes to take pictures. This review is not a technical one. It is intended to give my impression of the camera in an everyday environment.

I purchased the Nikon D100 after returning a Nikon Coolpix 5700. I was trying to decide between both cameras. My initial thought was to get the 5700 due to its size and portability. I've been using a Kodak DC280 until now so it seemed the 5700 will most resemble the portability of that camera. I tried the 5700 out for couple of days before returning it and getting the D100. You may read my review http://www.photopoints.com/main/article/article.aspx?id=1 on the 5700.
I also own a Nikon N6006. Having the N6006 and its lenses is a reason why I wanted to consider the D100 as a choice since the D100 could use those lenses.

I've read some reviews where the reviewer wants to compare the Nikon D100 to the Nikon F100. I see why one may be tempted to do that. However, the D100 is a camera which stands on its own. As far as I'm concerned Nikon could've called the camera the Coolpix 9500 or the D1x-mini or something else. The D100 is a name. I believe the only fair comparison to another camera, would be to a digital camera.

With that all this said in mind, my review will be based on the D100 own merits and a short comparison to the Nikon Coolpix 5700.

The conditions for which I would be using the camera are: 1) Landscape/Cityscape 2) Architecture 3) Wildlife 4) Action (kids playing - sports) 5) Family Gatherings, and 6) Candid shots.
