I work in bromoil, an obscure turn-of-the-century black and white process, now known as one of the alternative processes. In bromoil the silver in a black and white fiber base print is chemically bleached and replaced with greasy pigments. Bromoil is a marriage of photography, painting and printmaking and starts out with the best b/w print one can produce. Then, the print is bleached and tanned and the process and fun begins! It normally takes several hours to process one 8 x 10 inch print. I shoot only black and white film and use hands-on traditional darkroom practices rather than digital manipulation.

Author of **Bromoil 101** and **El Bromoleo Monocromo: Guia y Manual de Trabajo.** Workshop instructor in the bromoil process. Work published in magazines and books: Camera and Darkroom, PhotoArt International (feature article), Amateur Photography (feature article), Hand Colouring and Alternative Darkroom Processes (feature) and New Dimensions in Photo Processes (author of the chapter on the Bromoil Process).

Honorary member of The Bromoil Circle of Great Britain. Member of The International Society of Bromoilists. Founder of the Photographic Arts Network.
