A re-born photographer who was only really happy in a mountain environment. Alas my opportunities to record the beauty of the mountains from on high are now over due to a continuing problem with my aged back! The final diagnosis is that these are due to two fractured vertebrae and five partially compressed vertebrae as a result of osteoporosis. There is no cure, unfortunately, so the Doctor has said "no more climbing, mountaineering or skiing" but he has also said that I must keep walking through the pain as this will strengthen my back muscles which will support the injuries and ultimately reduce the pain level. I am carrying out his instructions and am fighting to regain some semblance of my former fitness. It's hard, and often painful, work but I don't intend to give up easily. I know that I will eventually be able to visit the mountains with the aid of my car and cable cars, as well as on foot, according to my Physiotherapist! After all, you are only young once!! LOL! However I hope to find new photographic inspiration with the purchase of new cameras. I am now beginning to realise how my addiction to the mountains has blinded me to the beauties which surround us at all times. However, I still feel sad at the thought that my actual climbing days are over. I just give thanks to the good Lord who has given me a happy and rewarding life which has left me with so many wonderful memories. My biopic is from a recent trip to Mayrhofen. I was sitting outside a cafe in the centre of the town, obviously enjoying life, when Bengt, a friend from Finland, grabbed this shot. I must thank all my wonderful friends on PP who have given me so much support and encouragement when at times I was close to despair. It is largely because of your prayers and thoughts that I am still fighting to find the road back. "Into my heart an air that kills From yon far country blows. What are those blue remembered hills, What farms what spires are those? That is the land of lost content, I see it shining plain. The happy highways where once I went, But ne'er can go again!" The lines from A.E.Houseman's "Shropshire Lad" are now so appropriate to my condition. I owe a great deal to members of PP (and to Oscar for giving us this site) for your encouragement and assistance with my pictures which has given a new enthusiasm to my photographic activities.
