Every year during violent storms in this area boats are ripped from their moorings and washed ashore. It happens with such frequency that this particular stretch of water is called "Fool's Anchorage" . Not only does the owner suffer the loss of his/her boat, but he/she has to repay the city for the removal of the destroyed boat, which can amount to thousands of dollars.

Image: This was a beautiful sailboat. It looked like it could easily be pulled back out to sea. However, the hull was cracked so the owner salvaged as many parts as possible and then seven days after being beached it was ripped apart by bulldozers and skiploaders then hauled away to the local landfill.

One might wonder why mariners continue to moor their boats in this area. Well, obtaining a boat slip in the Santa Barbara harbor is extremely difficult and a person can wait years and years as their name slowly moves up on a slip waiting list.

This is the other side of the truck , look how the truck is broken at the middle of the roof and it was pressing the baby seat and firefighters had to to work hard to get out the baby trapped in his seat.

Few minutes ago this 4x4 truck flew through the air and landed on the yellow taxi, after hitting another car, and incredibly for the pilot good luck, had a baby is his special seat in the rear and was unharmed.

A few moments ago I went to buy our breakfast and suddenly
this car, driven by a young guy totally drugged and drunk, accompanied by a beautiful young lady almost killed me crossing a red light to 120km per hour!
I had to make a very quick maneuver to avoid impacting me, but they were not so lucky and had 2 screwdriver rolls before end crossed in the street.
PS: you can see the guy and his girlfriend into the car yet.

This guy jumped the obstacle in his bicycle without any protección and you can see what they got and how the other riders who have no protection too looks incredulous what happened to his arm while he was faint
amid the dusty floor.
PS: While I'm waiting a reply from the newspaper I have made a deal with the firefighters and our private security , they have my mobile phone and call me when something happens, I take some pictures and send it to them by email like a gift.

These two thieves came to rob a house causing immediate reaction of the police special forces who captured them in few minutes.
Here you can see the attack planning of the police and also to the 2 thieves already captured and put inside the police vehicle. Those stupid guys didn't know that we have several security cameras in all my district, LOL!!

Incredible this happens at the back block of my home the same day of my previous post (yesterday) in the afternoon.
Firemen had to cut the little car to take out the poor guy.
happily the guy don't had great wounds and he is OK, I ask for his e mail and I send to him several pics of all his rescue :)
PS: As some of you knows I was a journalist politic writer retired because politic here is bullshit. But due to your advices I'm in flirts with a newspaper that will give me a radio with police and fire corp sequence, and maybe they can buy me some pics.

It's amazing, but since I deciding to take journailsm and documentaries pics, (since I post the photo of the suicide), daily these things happen very close to me.
For example, this happened yesterday morning in front of me when I left a supermarket near my home and in the afternoon another small truck crashed hard and the driver was trapped in it and firefighters had to cut the car to take out the guy.
It will be my new karma? or "THE SECRET" (THE LAW OF ATTRACTION) is working for me :))

Yesterday, when our private security (Serenazgo) took the criminal of my previous post at the police station, I took the handicap gentleman (his victim) to make the complaint and to recover his stolen property. There, another officer asked me to please take him to a prison in another district police station where they caught a criminal who allegedly killed 2 police officers.
Look the face of this other "poor little angel", He is very lucky that here there is no death penalty, although the policeman that I took for interrogated the guy wants to kill him with his own hands.

After taking the photo that I post before, I continue taking others to these "poor little angels" and then came 4 "Angels" more to drink with them.
Among them I recognized a face that I had seen several times in my district and I decided to follow him to see what he will make.
Here you have the proof that they are not "ANGELS"
This guy attack with a knife at this Handicap Sir exactly in front the hotel in what our friend Dora Bruce staying when she visits Lima in a very elegant, nice and touristic zone, very near my home.
But in my district we pay for an special security force that we called "Serenazgo" and they capture the guy in few seconds only with a call from my mobile phone.
You can see in the low part of the pic that the guy have ID of the Marine special forces.

SAD DECISION

I took this pic sequence some years ago and I'm posting here now because with my yesterday post, my Dear friend Joan say "don't feel comfortable watching these scenes in this site... playing with sickness, death and others' suffering... no, I don't like to see this here"
But really I think that if I go to all places with my camera and if I find something like this, like I did in this opportunity, what can I made??
What I made was, without the guy noticed, I took out my camera and be ready to shoot in burst, then Betty and I start to speak with the guy for long time trying to convincing him that don't jump. You can see it in the first 3 pics and I almost had success,even in the first pic the guy was laughing with me but in that moment come the police and the guy go to the border and jump in front us.
So I took my camera and start to shoot at the end of his life.
This are only few pics,and I deformed his eyes in respect to him. I have several pics of his fall to the cliff, about 30 almost falling in the air, but I only post this ones because I think is enough.
Well the point is I don't considered me like an artistic photographer I don't look for beauty compositions, etc. I only like to take pics as real as I can.
Sometimes I make PS work if I really dont like the pic that I post, because I'm know that Im not a good photographer.
Next post will be the pic of the Day that I would be killed by guns :))

This shot is three merged...about 21" wide and 8" tall. I reduced the size to 16% AND reduced the quality to be able to post. Three shots for an Urban project of a Railroad under a freeway ramp. All shots were using a 10.5mm Nikon lens. All were at F/22...with shutter speeds varied to adjust for exposure. Posted details are for the center shot. When I post this morning a pic dedicated to Valentine's Day , I promised you to return to the Love Park at night because I was sure to find all types of events dedicated to celebrating Valentine's Day ....
... But I never thought finding a marriage between two men and less than one dressed as a bride, LOL!
If you see the sign on the left of the pic, you can see a priest kissing a soldier with the caption that says: "Love does not discriminate." Perhaps they exaggerated by putting something like that, because it was not something of good taste for many.
In my country, gay weddings are not legal yet, but they: Gays, lesbians, transvestites, etc. always celebrate some special days, for them, with ceremonies like this or some other.
I have nothing against them and I must say that I respect their way of thinking, after all, we all have the right to be happy.
PS: I have to say that I saw Joan Roca with his husband around there, LOL!!!
Now I know that he will make a big revenge against me.

I apologise for my last image, I just couldn't resist taking "Jimmy" off his plinth and giving him the freedom of the skies once again. But, sorry, he has to come back down to earth at The National Memorial Arboretum. I grabbed this shot last week, I didn't realise then that I had jumped the gun!! He wasn't really available for public viewing!

On Tuesday, 20th May, Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, attended the Arboretum to to dedicate and unveil this memorial to the Royal Corps of Signals, (whose pet name for Mercury, their badge, was Jimmy!). So now I can show this image with a clear conscience!

On my visit to the National Memorial Arboretum, one of the first spots I had to visit was the memorial to my old regiment, the Royal Tank Regiment.

The memorial shows a Mark IV tank from the 1914/18 war. The first recorded use of tanks was on 15th September 1916 when about 30 went into action. This was quite a small scale operation largely to test their capabilities in one of the largest battles of the war near the villages of Flers and Courcelette, in this battle alone there were approximately one million casualties!
Then on 20th November 1917 tanks were used in large numbers for the first time at Cambrai. Over 300 Mark IV tanks fought the first major and successful battle using this modern innovation. Cambrai Day is still commemorated in the RTR.

The German army went on to prove that tanks were the answer to the old concept of siege warfare which had led to the appalling conditions in the first world war trenches. Tanks gave mobility and fluidity of movement which led to the German successes in the early stages of WW.2. General Heinz Guderian is renowned as being in the forefront of tank warfare strategy.

Is incredible how many "men" to demonstrate that they are "powerful" are devoted to kill animals without reason neither to eat their meat, only for pleasure and then they hang their heads like trophies in the wall, so that other people see the "powerful" and big "men" that they are.
I am not against the hunt, I was a hunter in my youth, but I was never made a massacre. I understand the responsible hunters that feed of their preys and use their skins for necessity.
Although seems incredible this is a wall of the living room of the house of only of one man who killed all these animals, the other 3 walls are same and has heads of elephants, giraffes, complete tigers, etc.
Finally he received his punishment when his sons fought for his inheritance, being even him with life and they finished shooting among all.

England in Spring, this was the view from my bedroom window across my garden at 07.30 today, 6th April. It had the amazing effect of making me grab a camera and take my first shot since July last year! The light was so beautiful but the view was so transient. I felt that I just had to record this.

The truth is that I am very indignant when seeing that my country (Peru), according to the economic world figures, 17% has grown in its economy this year, even the "sheriff of the world" George W.C Bush when signing the treaty of free trade with Perú, say (like a joke) to our president that lent to the United States some that growth.
All this sounds very beautiful, but the sad truth is that the poverty in my country is every time worse and lately, in my morning walks, I see more and more people that sleep in the streets covered only with a blanket, as this poor person that appears in this picture.
In the left superior side you can see inside a red circle where is that this person sleeps.
I came closer to speak with him to know more than his reality and although he has a work, thing that is very strange in our country, he has to sleep in the street, because his humble house is very far from his work and all his salary would wear out in bus tickets and food (a minimum salary like the one that he wins is here legally 120 dollars aprox)and he has to feed 5 children!!!
What X mas will have this family?????

The truth is that every time I am more ashamed of belonging to the human race, auto-proclaimed "the most perfect and intelligent beings of the creation"!!
Recently I went to the zoo in my country (I only know other countries for the TV) and I could not believe what people said about a poor lion caged in a place of 10 x 5 meters!! they said "the lions are very lazy, doesn't walk and they only sleep"
I never felt more indignation in my life!! how is possible that we "the masters of the creation" have another alive being into grills in such a reduced place only so that we can see it and to feel superiors?? in that same moment I decided to leave the zoo so that my 3 year-old daughter doesn't see these cruelties and believe that is this way like should be the things.
another thing that it frightened me is that today I received an email about the punishment of a boy in Iran for steal a bread, you can see it in the web http://eduplanet.net/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=2039&parent=2533
the PPS file is called "8 years old child punished in Iran" IF YOU CAN'T LOOK IT IN THAT ADRRES LOOK IN GOOGLE LIKE "8 years old child punished in Iran"

The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks take over their day. WHAT ABOUT YOU? What would happen in your life, starting today, if you let more Garbage Trucks simply pass you by? Here's my bet ... You'll be happier.

And… if you know YOU have been a garbage truck, it is not too late to change. It takes a bigger person to park your garbage truck for good!

Today is the day in the US when we are supposed to honor our war dead. This site on the beach of Santa Barbara is reset each Sunday, when volunteers set over 3,400 crosses in the sand, one for each of the US servicemen who have died in the Iraq war.

A political statement to be sure, but nevertheless, still also a sobering memorial!

One of the downsides to being one of the best in the world is the Media attention.

Paolo Bettini doing an interview before his Time Trial event in the 2007 Amgen Tour of California. Paolo finished 71st, 3:39 behind the eventual winner Levi Leipheimer. The day before, in Stage 4, Paolo finished first. :o)

I must tell some background info on this pic. It was taken in early August at Balboa Park in San Diego during a Saturday afternoon walk that I do about 4 times a week in the summers. I heard a lot of cheering and a loudspeaker and then saw about 50 mounted policemen. I went over and started taking pics. I will post one more tomorrow. This was the one that I have been undecided on but I decided to post.
I like photojournalism and this was a rally that was Anti Israel/ American and Pro Lebanese, hence all the security. This girl was with her parents and near the end she was sitting down and I often wondered just what she was thinking. I bet she would have liked to been on the beach that day with her friends. I do not want to offend just merely taking a pic of this event.

Built in 1606 the Porta Coeli ("Gateway to Heaven") cathedral is the second oldest church structures in the western hemisphere. Located in San German, Puerto Rico, it was restored by the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture and now serves as a museum of religious paintings and wooden carvings dating back from the 18th and 19th centuries.

"Knapp's Castle is the remains of a huge mansion that was built on the top of the mountain ridge. According to the books "California Waterfalls" and "California Hiking", this estate was built in 1916 by George Knapp, the retired chairman of the board of Union Carbide. The mansion was a five bedroom structure that contained much sandstone (I read somewhere that it took twenty men fulltime for four years to build the estate). Mr. Knapp built a road to his new home and had a private waterfall that could be seen from his observation deck complete with lighting to illuminate the falls at night and a speaker system that brought music to the falls from the pipe organ in the main house. Mr. Knapp also built a system of locks to capture the water and a pump house to ensure that he could continue to run water over the falls even during the dry months. The house burned down in 1940."

Several folks have expressed interest in seeing the "whole" of the Bentley which provided Fred's birthday transport.

Well, here it is. Just posted for interest, and not for criticism or points. The shot has no real claim to photographic quality, it's just a record of "the day"!

This will probably be my last upload for some time, I am just too busy to spend too much time in front of my PC. (And the days are getting longer and the weather is improving! Been out on my bike today for the first time in ages and I must get fit for a climbing trip to Glencoe in just over two weeks time).
If I am not able to return the courtesy of your comments, I feel that it is totally unfair to post my shots and expect you to look and comment on them. So, while I will be looking in occasionally, my attendance will not be too obvious.
I will be back, as and when!!!!!

Written in a letter to his brother Theo... it's not clear if he was speaking about this specific drawing or not... but one in this series of drawings and paintings no doubt... He also often did drawings as studies after finishing a painting.

This is the "replica" bike that was built especially for the film - The Worlds Fastest Indian - set in NZ and USA. A story about Burt Munro who in the 60's and 70's set several land speed records on his 1920's Indian. The film stars Anthony Hopkins who plays the part very well, apart from the NZ accent which he did not quite get, but we forgive him. On the original bike Munro did over 200mph at Bonneville Salt Flats.

Another image from my visit to Grindelwald in 1988.

This is the "snout" of the Unterer Grindelwald Gletscher. The final ice fall can be seen, together with the grubby layers of ground down ice falling away down to valley bottom. The ice arch would have a roaring torrent of water emerging at times of real thaw.

I wonder how far back this "snout" has retreated in the years since I shot this!

Once again, Kodak negative film scanned on my Epson Perfection.
