Just behind the tall buildings you can see a road that goes horizontally across them.
Where there's still no tall buildings begins the beautiful district of "BARRANCO" full of beautiful old houses, which, very cleverly and through its municipal laws are being preserved.
It is unfortunate that in my district think that progress means fill the city of tall buildings:((

The hill of dried mud that you can see at the up left side is the "HUACA PUCLANA" Taken from a paraglider.
Huaca Pucllana is a Pre-Columbian archaeological site in the Miraflores District of Lima, Peru. It features walls of adobe bricks, built in a bookshelf fashion, which were found to be earthquake resistant. It was constructed by the Lima culture as a ceremonial site. Today it is an active archaeological site, that was originally begun to be excavated in 1982. All the research work of the huaca is funded by the Municipality of Miraflores.
It initially had an area of approximately 20 hectares, but now is only 6 hectares, due to urban development, which did not value ancient ruins until only recently. There is also an open air restaurant on the site.

Paraglider View of the "PARQUE DEL AMOR" (LOVE PARK)In english,It is very near my home.(full window better)
Love Park is located on the cliffs of Miraflores overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It's surrounded by walls of romantic quotes scripted in mosaic tiles and a monumental statue of two lovers embracing each other in the center of the park
It is a on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific ocean devoted entirely to romance.
The poet Antonio Cilloniz had lamented that "In the cities, they do not build monuments to lovers", a reaction, to all the monuments in South America (and everywhere else) devoted to those who had distinguished themselves in battle by either winning or dying.
Miraflores decided to be the exception and they opened the Parque del Amor in 1993 on Valentines day. The park features a prominent statue of two lovers in a passionate embrace over Cilloniz's very own words.
The major sculpture in the park is of "El Beso", a couple engaged in a passionate kiss. It was sculpted by Victor Delfin.
The sculpture celebrates the lovers who gather to catch the sunset on the waters of the Pacific Ocean. It is said that the locals compete for the longest kiss under this statue.
Walking here at most times of the day and night you can see couples here, kissing or snuggled close together.

Yesterday finally we had good wind, sun and visibility to take pictures from a paraglider so I decided to fly to make some shots.
The roof, which is under my feet, is the roof of the tall building of Hotel Marriot of my district, "Miraflores". You can also see that just where the tall buildings finish is just where finish my district (Miraflores) and begin other districts as "Barranco", "Chorrillos, Etc.
They are lucky that their municipalities do not allow them to demolish the beautiful old houses to build huge residential buildings or offices.

Yesterday we fly again, was pretty sunny, but the wind become crazy hard and shake us too much, so I could only take few bad pics:(
Here is the Miraflores Bridge very near my home.
You can see how the big buildings are devouring the city , >:(( grrr!!!
Luckily I have my house in a place near there but were don't have yet to much buildings and if somebody one to build one in my zone only can of max 5 floors :))

It was impossible too take this pic without part of my blue jean and one shoe, LOL!
My friend (the pilot) take me there because he said me that when we have excellent sun like that day, sometimes there are nude young ladies swimming there, because it is the highest and lone building of that zone , but the girls don't remember that sometimes some paragliders fly over, hahahah!!(¿or maybe they do it?)

PS: wind was so strong that was very difficult to took some pics because for moments the paraglider shakes a lot , but I made my best for you.
The problem is that I went with only a 18-55 lens and for most of the pics maybe I need a wide angle.

Hangin' on the Prop

Pilots sometimes refer to this type of approach as "Hangin' on the Prop." It's a high angle of attack maneuver used to minimize the approach speed and therefor the landing distance.

This guy was draggin' it down the valley and "Hangin' on the Prop" on his approach to a water landing at Lake Hood in Anchorage, Alaska.

Our friend got older...MUCH faster than us.
He seems much more wrinkled, from what we can see. He’s got character lines and cataracts...for sure,
But don't call him old...just call him MATURE!

I had 1 shot at this plane as it flew over a field as I drove down the highway. I was able to pull over in time and grab my camera next to me. Being there at the right time is the luck of the draw:)

Another image from my "tag" session with Julian Chu over the Aleutian Islands. The writeup below is the same as for the previous picture.

Many of you will remember Julian Chu. He's a member of Photopoints, an excellent photographer, an excellent Captain, and a wonderful friend!

We both departed Anchorage, Alaska last week; both of us bound for Taipei. He departed first and since the MD-11 is slightly slower than the B-747, we caught him after about 3 hours somewhere over the Aleutian Island chain. He was at 34,000 feet and we were at 33,000 feet. I shot a lot of images of his flight... as he did of ours 1000 feet below him.

I'll probably post several images, but I liked this angle. The bright sun was at his 10 o'clock position. The sky was a deep blue, no clouds above, and no contrails. During the processing of this image I adjusted levels and the sky went almost black... and I liked the effect.

So here's a shot of my good friend, Captain Julian Chu doing what he loves to do... fly that massive MD-11 freighter all over the world. What a guy!

Took this today. They are spraying soybean for aphids. They sap all the life out of the leaves and the plants will eventually die and reduce the yield of the soybeans. This plane was coming right toward me and went up over the house.

These are cool planes. It was fun taking this. It was the only one that came by while I had my camera and I had to pan it and also time it to be between the power lines (the diagonals top and bottom). Good practice for me on a technique I haven't used in a lot of years.

A recent trip to Spokane, Washington afforded one of the most beautiful aerial views of the West Coast heading out of the San Francisco Bay Area all the way to Seattle.

The mountain in the back is Mt. Diablo...I live at the base of the mountain...this was taken leaving Oakland airport...downtown Oakland is represented by the tall buildings to the left of the waterway...

Carl Main mentioned that his father piloted a torpedo bomber during WWII...so here it is, Carl...bet this was the one...a Grumman TBF Avenger, a three-seat torpedo bomber which first saw action in the Battle of Midway in June, 1942. It had a max. speed of 278 mph and was powered by a 1,700 hp radial engine.

A close-in view of a North American AT-6 Texan two seat, advanced trainer introduced in 1939. It had a 550 hp radial, aircooled engine and a top speed of 205 mph...used widely during WWII to train American pilots.

The Vought F4U Corsair was one of the best land and carrier based U.S. Naval fighters in the pacific theatre in WWII. They destroyed 2,140 enemy aircraft compared to only 189 losses, a kill ratio of more than 11:1. This gull winged fighter had a top speed of 424 mph and was powered by a 2,250 hp radial, aircooled engine.

Taken Sunday at the local Wings of Victory Airshow featuring WWII era aircraft....these are AT-6 Advanced Trainers in formation. My objective this year was to capture these with a slow shutter speed to get the prop blur but with a sharp image of the aircraft. Took about 600 frames during the show to get about 40 keepers, lol! This image was taken, full frame, at f9, 1/320 sec., ISO 100, at 240mm equivalent. Thanks for looking!

There are places in the mountains where you find the greenest of bodies of water like you see here. This was shot North of Vancouver...not easy to do thru those airplane windows but here you see what I saw about a week ago. In PS, added contrast, grain and USM for effect. Hope you enjoy:)
