This was taken at a mutton grabber race for 3-7 year olds. All they had to hang onto was the sheep's wool. Most kids fell off right away and most were in tears. I can't figure out why any parent would put a kid through that kind of a race. Once the sheep took off on the run, the kids fell harder. This little girl was one of few who wore a helmet.

Another type of races you will find at local rodeos. They must circle around the starting barrel and then head down the track. How quickly they can maneuver around the barrel can determine how they will end up finishing in the race.

They were coming around the bend and up to the finishing line. Dust and dirt were flying. Everyone was on the edge of their seats cheering their favorite contestants on. The sun was pretty strong and I was pleased with the results considering the time of day. I could barely see my LCD screen but I managed. This is for my mentor, Rick Joyce. Hope you enjoy it, Rick...and thank you! Competitors came from all over Alberta for the horse races and rodeo last weekend. I never saw so many horse trailers before. She's off her horse and onto the calf. Calf roping is a competition at a local rodeo. The cow person must dismount their horse... get the calf down and properly hog tie its feet. Sometimes, the calf gets away;) I don't particularly like to see animals of any kind subjected to any kind of treatment which might frighten them but.... I guess ranchers have to do it for branding purposes and this is a way for the ranch hands to learn to be quick. Most of the competitors could do this in less than half a minute....depending on how frisky the calf is. 70-200 L IS lens polarizer and Haze filters The sun was blazing hot and I was amazed I got excellent shooting results, regardless. ~

This was a one time shot of this horse with my new 100-400mm lens. He was running at full speed towards my friend and me and all I got was 1 chance before he was on top of us.

Shooting a white horse in snow is not easy, trust me. The color version is nice enough but the sunlit tree colors took some of the focus from the horse so I liked the B&W version better.

*I just got word of my cousin's passing and I'm so sad. She was only 46. Cancer knows no bounds. This image is for her. She fought cancer hard and had the most positive attitude anyone could have but it wasn't enough....RIP dear Lyn.

Two different batters from the opposing team swing and miss at a pitch from the Hanshin Tiger pitcher.

In the top one he was "caught looking", not swinging at a call strike.

In the bottom one he's way out in front of the pitch, and I'd guess he was going after a change-up!

At the start of the game the low afternoon sun was coming through an opening in the stadium wall, from right behind me. It cast this striking (no pun intended) pattern of light on home plate and the all dirt infield.
